Jesus - The Teen Years

I am not offended by this poster, obviously this poster was someones vision of what Jesus Teenager years were like. At least he attempts to have a sense of transendence to the work, but Jesus seems so ordinary and common. A typical teenager. Was he? Was Jesus the playa this artist makes him out to be? Did he swagger? Did he ooze cool like Miles Davis or machismo like James Dean? Christ was a man just like any other, but I'd like to think he was a little more special than just the average teenager.

Hat tip to Monastic Mumblings.

Yo Dude I like this poster, I think that it speaks to the kids, I think that sometimes kids only see Jesus as the man with the halo around his head as the man that is holier then you, when he is portrayed like a man that is holier then you (even though he is holier then us) sometimes kids have a hard time approaching him, because they feel unworthy of him, and unsavable, but when he is portrayed as a cool dude while at the same time being very very holy it is easier for them to want to know him.

Andrea,
I do agree, I seriously doubt there were guys with my complexion in in the desert. I melt if it's just a little humid.

Logan,
Glad to see you back man. I am not offended by this picture. In fact, I feel nothing over it. I do not sense the love of God or the passion of Christ in this picture. I do not know the artists motives behind this poster. I can just say that looking at it I feel indifferent about Jesus. A luke warmness that God doesn't particularly appreciate. I have seen far better pictures of Christ that shows the love of God, his compassion, grace, and love towards us. I get none of that from this picture.

It's interesting to see him portrayed as a cool dude, I am not offended at that. Although what's the lady hiding her breast meant to be? Mary Magdalene I wonder? Jesus would have been a wise an cool dude i'm sure, but of course kept himself pure without sex.
:D

Well, I don't know if no sex is equated with purity.... If it is, then I am the purest of the pure.....Fo' Sho'!!

I assume that Jesus was teased by the football players, shunned by the stoners and too cool for the chess club. I imagine him as a misfit alien who was always on the lip of a huge bowl of melancholy and lonely for peers.

I think Mary Magdalene was his woman, I think it is her to his right in the LAST SUPPER painting too.

I DO NOT think that he had "THUG LIFE" or whatever tattooed on his belly tho.

Carmel,
I think you can read a lot into that poster. As far as imagery concerned he was quite smart. There are aspects of the picture which you can read a lot into it. Outside of that, not so much.

Inf,
Well put, that is exactly how I see Jesus myself. He wasn't the cool guy that the cool people wanted to be around. And who were the cool people? The pharisees and other religious leaders who exploited people for their own gain.

Definitely an interesting painting. It portrays him a bit like your Beckham & Pitt, which I think is a bit funny. Like you cube, I dont really take away anything from this portrait. It doesn't offend me either nor does it please me.

I think it is rather odd, that he looks like Brad Pitt... But your right, it really did not anger me, every one is entitled to thier opinions I guess.

Jess and Sprite,
I've seen many pictures of christ from various points in time. The buddy Christ from Dogma got more of a reaction from me than this one. It's a good picture don't get me wrong, but so what?

It's definitely interesting and thought provoking. I often wonder what Christ was like growing up, as a dude, you have to wonder if he was tempted then as much as we are now. In this picture it looks like he could have been. I am sure the devil was always trying to trip him up.

Actually Mary Magdalene was not Jesus girl , she was his follower like all Christians.
All girls are his girls, but not one more than the other.

Eddo,
I think it is a well made picture, and you can read a lot into it, but it's nothing special.

Carmel,
Well put, that's how you should see yourselves.

I don't like it.

It's the smug look.

I am also wondering what the tattoo on his torso says.

By the way, we are all "Jesus' Girl". The Church is the Bride of Christ.

And that bride is a whore and a princess at the same time. But eventually just a princess. Rev. 21.
